BELLBROOK —

Michelle Johnson initially volunteered at the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Family Resource for its Christmas adopt-a-family program in 2003.

“Through that program, I became familiar with Susan Lopez and the programs she runs at the resource center. I’ve always been interested in helping others so I was naturally drawn to the resource center,” said Johnson.

“While the Resource Center has a lot of programs it runs itself, it can easily direct people to other, less obvious resources, that can be of help. Several programs, like the food bank, are geared towards those with financial difficulties but the resource center can help with any kind of issue,” she said.

What she does as a volunteer: Johnson helps with food bank distribution, summer children’s programs, Christmas adopt-a-family and general office assistance.

“I also run a garage sale during the annual Bellbrook garage sale weekend,” she said. “The resource center collects donations and I run the garage sale at my house. All proceeds go back to the resource center.”

The most satisfying thing about volunteering: “My satisfaction is knowing that I can make a positive difference in someone else’s life.”

Qualifications for someone who wants to volunteer with this group: “There are no special qualifications at all— just a willingness to help your neighbor. Anyone can do this.”

How to get involved: Contact the Resource Center at (937) 848-3810.
