SHELBY COUNTY —
A man found breaking into a Shelby County home was arrested Tuesday evening after his own cell phone called 911, according to records.
Shelby County deputies responded to the 500 block of Miami River Road on the report of a 911 call around 6 p.m. Deputies noticed fresh footprints in the snow and a window that had been forced, according to a report.
Two deputies continued through the residence, and focused their attention on a bathroom after they heard chimes. A male then called out from the shower and stepped out with his hands up.
The man, later identified as Doug Wolaver, told police he was “just scrapping,” according to the report.
The cell phone that had apparently called 911 was discovered in Wolaver’s front pocket, according to the report. Pliers, vice grips, a screwdriver, gloves, a ski mask and a flashlight were also removed, according to the report.
Wolaver faces a breaking and entering charge.
