DARKE COUNTY —

CareFlight was called to a crash in Darke County today where a man was pinned underneath his vehicle after being partially ejected.

The crash was reported around 8:45 a.m. today near the intersection of Beamsville-Union City and Hillgrove-Fort Recovery roads just outside Union City.

Authorities said John Neargardner, 30, of Union City, was driving westbound on Beamsville-Union City Road, and after passing another vehicle, went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and went off the roadway where it struck a tree and rolled onto its side.

The driver was partially ejected from the passenger side door, authorities said. Crews were able to extricate the victim by placing an airbag under under the roof of the truck.

Neargardner was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with serious leg injuries.

The crash was a result of high speed, authorities said.
