TROY —
A man accused of purposely causing the death of his then-girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter has been found competent for trial.
A Miami County Common Pleas judge issued the ruling Thursday in the case against Travis Lee Gauldin, 22, charged with one count of murder. The ruling means Gauldin is mentally able to assist his attorney in the defense of the charges.
Investigators said on April 12 at a home on Caldwell Street in Piqua, Gauldin was responsible for taking care of Malisa De Le Sancha, who died as a result of injuries she suffered that day after falling or being pushed down a flight of stairs.
A jury trial has been set to begin Jan. 23.
Gauldin remains in the county jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
