TROTWOOD —

A man walking on Shiloh Springs Road stepped off the curb and was struck by a pick-up truck in the westbound lanes of the road early Sunday morning.

The victim’s shoes were still in the street as officers investigated the crash around 12:50 a.m. at the intersection of Shiloh Springs and Basore roads.

“He was not responsive at the time. He did have a pulse, he had vital signs,” said Trotwood Sgt. Brandon Holbrook, who reported the victim was transported to Miami Valley Hospital aboard an ambulance.

Holbrook said Keith Tanner, 30, was struck by what appeared to be the front passenger side of the small model Ford Ranger. The vehicle sat along Shiloh Springs with a sizable dent on the front hood. Tanner Monday morning remained in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

“It looks like the victim may have rolled up on the hood and maybe over the top,” Holbrook said.

Tanner was wearing blue jeans and a black jacket, according to Holbrook, who also said there were no witnesses to the crash besides the driver of the pick-up truck.

According to Holbrook, the area has seen additional crashes of this nature, with at least one other pedestrian strike within the past year.

Less than a month ago on Jan. 20 Henry Jones, 30, was fatally struck by an SUV on Salem Avenue, just a few miles away from Sunday’s pedestrian crash.

So far, no charges have been filed against the driver and the crash remains under investigation.
