Market robbed at gunpoint with child inside

By Drew Simon

DAYTON —

Two armed men forced a customer and his child to the ground, while demanding cash and cigarettes from a Huffman Avenue market clerk around 3 p.m. Friday, according to police.

According to police reports, the two men entered the J&M Market, 813 Huffman Ave., wielding semi automatic handguns. The report describes one of the alleged robbers as a black man wearing a black jacket, black hoodie and wearing a bandanna over his face. The other reported robber was a black man wearing a dark green jacket with a hood with a bandanna over his face, the report said.

The customer and his child were not injured during the robbery, but the suspects pointed the guns at the clerk while one of the alleged robbers grabbed cash from the register and safe, according to the report. The two suspects are believed to have taken around $400 cash and around $70 worth of cigarettes.

Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the market around the time the robbery occurred. The two men reportedly jumped into a 4-door purple Dodge car, possibly a Intrepid or Stratus, witnesses said. The suspect vehicle fled south on nearby Gerlaugh Avenue, before fleeing west on Huffman Avenue.

According to the report, the alleged robbers may have been accompanied by another woman and man, who were seen by witnesses in the fleeing vehicle.

The robbery remains under investigation and police have reviewed surveillance tape from inside the store.
