BUTLER TWP., Montgomery Co. —

Firefighters from at least six different departments were called to the former Knights Inn motel on Maxton Road early Thursday morning.

Fire crews first received the call of a fire around 3 a.m. and when crews arrived they immediately called for mutal aid as heavy smoke poured from the vacant building in the 3600 block of Maxton.

The fire battle proved to be labor intensive, as firefighters had to check every room of the building to ensure no one was inside. Firefighters have not located any victims, according to reports.

Investigators discovered flames in two different areas of the motel. A fire was found on the west side of the building and in the middle of the building. Crews were eventually able to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters from Butler Township, Union, Englewood, Harrison Township, Huber Heights and Vandalia responded to fight the fire.

Investigators have not determined an official cause to the fire, but electric and gas were both connected at the motel.
