The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has named a new principal for Bishop Fenwick High School.

Andrew Barczak — a longtime educator at Covington Latin School in Covington, Ky. — will take the helm at Bishop Fenwick, effective July 1. The appointment was made by Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr, following a national search and strong recommendation from the Principal Search Committee.

Robin Blank, spokeswoman for Bishop Fenwick, said the search committee consisted of representatives from the school, community and greater diocese that have knowledge of Bishop Fenwick’s history and constituents.

“Mr. Barczak is a man of deep faith who sincerely and passionately embraces the mission of Catholic education,” said Jim Rigg, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. “He has achieved a strong reputation as an academician, and knows how to nurture a superior instructional program.”

Rigg said Barczak also has a proven history of building relationships with alumni and supporters, and accessing new sources of support for Catholic high schools.

“We’re excited (the diocese) is through the process and we’re starting out early in the calendar year with a named principal,” Blank said, who added Barczak will be meeting with school faculty and staff in the near future.

At Bishop Fenwick, Barczak will replace Trevor Block, who has been serving in an interim capacity this year. Block took over in June 2012 after Michael Miller served three years as principal.

“I wish to thank Mr. Block for his outstanding service during this interim year,” Rigg said. “Mr. Block has deeply impressed me with his leadership abilities, and Fenwick has continued to prosper under his tenure.”

A graduate of Northern Kentucky University, Barczak earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university, according to the diocese. His career began in 1979 as a teacher at Covington Latin School. Since then, Barczak’s served in the roles of guidance counselor, dean of students, and since 2001, as headmaster at the school.
