DAYTON —

After a short foot chase, police were able to catch one of three people suspected of breaking into a garage to steal tools.

A neighbor alerted police to the crime in progress at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday after hearing loud noises. The man told dispatchers that two men and woman were attempting to break into the garage of a vacant house in the 500 block of Deeds Avenue.

The woman was acting as a lookout. The neighbor said one of the men had also broken a window to the the house, according to a Dayton Police incident report.

When police arrived the three individuals took off running. An officer was able to apprehend David Leis.

A large amount of property, mostly tools, was located in an alley and a yard near the garage. The door to the garage had been completely removed from it’s fame, the report said.

Leis, 29, is facing possible charges of breaking and entering, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
