The death of a man killed Friday afternoon after he was struck by a train in Trenton is being investigated as a suicide, according to police officials.

Police say the victim is a man in his 20s, but did not release his name Friday pending notification of next of kin.

CSX workers called Trenton police about 1:45 p.m. Friday reporting the train had struck a person on the steel trestle over Elk Creek, according to Trenton Police Chief Tim Traud.

“The train is a 98-car train with two locomotives,” he said. “It weighs about 6,300 tons and was heading north.”

Police said the death appears to have been a suicide, but the investigation in continuing.

It is not the first train fatality in Trenton this year.

In February, Robert Stacey Brown and his 4-year-old son, Robert Coy Brown, died near the East State Street railroad crossing. The father’s death was ruled a suicide.

In 2010, William E. Kingrey of Camden was fatally struck by a CSX train while walking to his job site. Kingrey, an Asplundh Tree Expert Co. worker, was carrying a chain saw, a tree trimming pole and climbing gear as he crossed the train trestle over Elk Creek near the East State Street crossing.
