Police: Rape suspect targeted mother and kids

DAYTON —

Police are looking for a man who allegedly raped a woman after pretending to show her and her children about a place to live.

The rape was reported Tuesday by the 28-year-old female victim after she was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by her boyfriend, according to Dayton police Sgt. Larry Tolpin.

Tolpin said the woman, her boyfriend and her two children, ages 4 and 6, have been looking for a place to live and were staying temporarily at a home on Gramont Avenue.

The family had permission from the owner to stay at the vacant house until they found a more permanent place.

Tolpin said a friend of the owner stopped by the home and asked the family whether they had permission to stay there.

Tolpin said after the victim’s boyfriend left for work the man returned, telling the victim he had an apartment available that he could show her.

The suspect reportedly took the woman and her children to an apartment on Custer Place. Tolpin said the suspect gave the children ice cream, then took the woman upstairs on the pretense of showing her the apartment.

Once upstairs, the man reportedly pulled out a handgun from the nightstand and then sexually assaulted the woman, Tolpin said, adding that the suspect then drove the woman and her children back to where they are staying.
