DAYTON —

A 24-year-old man suspected of drug possession was accused of striking a police officer during his arrest Thursday.

Officers used a Taser, pepper spray and physical force to subdue Laron Darnell Coleman, who was arrested at 11 a.m. in the parking lot at 5044 Caliph Court on suspicion of drug possession, resisting arrest and obstructing official business, according to a Dayton police report.

Coleman was standing outside the apartment building with another man when police arrived. He initially allowed one of the officers to pat him down, then struggled and ran from the officers, at one point hitting one of them in the chest, according to the report.

Two Taser deployments and pepper spray had no effect on the suspect, according to the report, and an officer applied pressure to the man’s nose to gain control of him. .

Police said during the brief chase the suspect dropped a bag of marijuana that contained an estimated 11 grams and a bag of heroin that contained an estimated 3.6 grams, according to the report.

Coleman has four active warrants and was on community control through Dayton Municipal Court, all stemming from traffic violations, according to court records.

He is in the Montgomery County Jail pending arraignment Friday.
