Tipp City students arraigned in threats case

By Breaking News Staff

TIPP CITY —

Two Tippecanoe students were arraigned today in juvenile court on accusations they left threatening messages in school restrooms.

A 15-year-old high school student and a 14-year-old middle school student were each arraigned on charges of inducing panic, disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing, all felony-level offenses.

Each student entered pleas of denial, the juvenile-court equivalent to a not-guilty plea, according to reports.

Both students were ordered back to the juvenile detention facility. The judge denied a request to release the teenagers to their parents.

The junior high student, who is 14, was picked up Wednesday afternoon at the middle school. He was arrested in connection with a note on a cafeteria table that was found Wednesday morning.

The high school student, who is 15, was taken into custody at the police station after interviews police conducted with students led them to the high school. He was taken into custody stemming from a written threat found at the high school a week ago Wednesday.

The boys know each other, but it is unclear whether the threats were done individually or as part of a program with other students, Graham said.

Superintendent John Kronour said school officials were able to track the note found in the cafeteria to a student who was at the table during an end-of-the-day study hall Tuesday.
