TROY, Ohio —

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in a crash involving an SUV and a CSX train early Friday morning.

The owner of the vehicle reportedly parked the SUV on the Union Street railroad crossing and then exited the vehicle and walked home, police said. The owner, who was not being cooperative with officers, told police he didn’t remember where he had parked the vehicle.

Around 5 a.m. a northbound CSX train collided with the SUV, destroying the vehicle. Officers and emergency crews searched the area for any potential victims, but soon determined the SUV was unoccupied.

The collision occurred at the Union Street crossing and the vehicle was pushed for around 500 feet, according to reports.

The Troy Police Department is investigating the crash.
