Trustees establish criteria for filling vacant seat

BEAVERCREEK TWP., Greene County —

The township trustees have established a procedure for those interested in filling the vacant seat on Board of Trustees and set a Jan.21 deadline for applicants.

Trustees Carol Graff and Dan Paxson have 30 days to fill the seat vacated when Bob Glaser resigned effective Jan. 1. following his election as Greene County commissioner.

Graff originally brought up the issue at the Dec. 21 meeting when Glaser submitted his resignation, but nothing was decided. At Monday’s meeting Paxson proposed that applicants provide a single-page cover letter that includes:

  • address and community longevity
  • community philosophy of what they think about and feel about the township
  • community involvement
  • thoughts on township services
  • work history/experience

Paxson said any other information the applicant thought pertinent could be attached to the cover letter and sent to the township’s fiscal officer. He also asked for the proposed requirements to be posted on the township’s web site.

Graff agreed with the proposal but asked that cover letters also go to the township administrator..

The trustees’ next meeting is Jan. 22. If Paxson and Graff are unable to agree on a replacement before the 30-day deadline then the choice will be made by the Greene County probate judge. Whoever is appointed will serve through Dec. 31. That person can run in the November election for a full 4-year term.
