DAYTON —

The University of Dayton has decided to continue the suspension of a campus fraternity following an investigation into drunken and disorderly conduct at a gas station in November.

The Sigma Chi fraternity has been suspended for two years in connection with the Nov. 17 incident in Madison County, Ohio. The organization will also have to pay a $200 fine and members must perform community service in Madison County.

The fraternity has been under a temporary suspension since November while the university conducted its investigation. The two-year suspension was handed down following a hearing last week.

No arrests were made following the incident in which 80 students on two buses were seen running through the service station, urinating on the floor, breaking items and standing on parked cars. All the students were reportedly intoxicated.

The Madison County prosecutor did not bring charges against any individuals. Representatives from the fraternity reportedly paid the gas station owners for some damaged items the night of the incident.

Under the suspension, the fraternity may not live in a special-interest house or engage in any activities, including organizational meetings, events or gatherings, according to UD spokeswoman Teri Rizvi.

The fraternity has 60 members. The individuals on the bus included female guests of members.

Under other conditions for reinstatement, the fraternity must submit a plan of action on how the group will remain in good standing as well as commit to being alcohol free for the first year.

The fraternity has the right to appeal the decision. The fraternity, which is headquartered in Evanston, Ill., has previously declined to comment on the incident or investigation.

We are working to contact the fraternity and will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
