Welfare check reveals children living among cockroaches

HARRISON TWP. —

Three children may be removed from their father’s home after sheriff deputies said they discovered they were living in unsanitary conditions.

The home is “unsanitary for any children,” said Captain Jeremy Roy. He said the home is not deplorable to the point of being condemned, but it’s not safe enough for children.

When deputies arrived to the house, located in the 2000 block of Lodell Avenue, the father invited deputies inside. Once inside, deputies said they found the home to be infested with cockroaches and there was no food.

The father spoke to News Center 7’s Kate Bartley and said he loves his children and would never hurt them. He said he buys them food every evening at a convenience store.

The children are 2, 4 and 9. The father has not been arrested.
