UPPER SANDUSKY — The 12-megawatt Wyandot Solar energy project — the largest of its kind in Ohio — will be officially inaugurated Thursday, Aug. 19, outside Upper Sandusky.
The project includes 159,000 solar panels on 80 acres in Salem Twp. It can yield enough energy to power up to 9,000 homes when the sun is shining.
The output, which began May 26, is being purchased by American Electric Power. Developed by Juwi Solar, it was later acquired by PSEG Solar Source LLC and built by Ohio workers using equipment primarily made in the state, PSEG said.
The Ohio State University Extension said it helped Wyandot County officials study the project and organize public forums.
OSU President Gordon Gee will be among the speakers at the unveiling ceremony, accompanying Gov. Ted Strickland and corporate representatives.
