COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus marathon has announced an unusual change to its course that should please just about everyone but runners from Michigan.

The 33-year-old race will for the first time take marathoners directly into Ohio Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.

Organizers of the 26.2-mile race said Thursday that participants will enter the stadium at about the 17.5-mile mark, run through the home team tunnel, travel along the south end of the field and exit on the opposite side.

The change is one of several being made to the second half of the course. The first half, which travels several Columbus neighborhoods, remains the same.

The marathon is the state's largest with about 4,700 finishers in 2011. It's scheduled for Oct. 21 this year.
