COVINGTON, Ky. — A northern Kentucky prosecutor has charged a former county commissioner from Ohio with soliciting prostitution and drug trafficking.

The Kenton County Attorney's office announced the misdemeanor charges against 60-year-old Archie Wilson, who resigned abruptly last week from his position as Clermont County commissioner in Ohio.

A Kenton District Court clerk said Thursday morning that Wilson had not yet been arrested. A message left for Wilson at Midwestern Plumbing Services, which lists him as chief operating officer, was not immediately returned.

The case against Wilson began in Clermont County, according to a Clermont County Sheriff's Office report cited by The Kentucky Enquirer (http://cin.ci/zK2JH7). The report says a female inmate at the Clermont County jail came forward alleging that Wilson had taken her to hotels in northern Kentucky, where he paid her for sex and supplied her with drugs.

The report dated June 22, 2011, says Amanda Lay told a detective about the alleged encounters after seeing Wilson's photo in a newspaper. Wilson would call her to set up a pick-up location, and then take her to one of three motels in Erlanger, according to the report.

She told investigators that Wilson brought cocaine and pills "to give to her and for his own consumption," the report said.

Lay said she wrote down the license plate of his vehicle and supplied the information to police, who contacted a hotel clerk.

The clerk "remembered this SUV with an older male and young female renting a room," the report said. "(The) clerk said he thought it was odd and wrote down the tag number."

It matched the number Lay gave police. The vehicle was registered to Midwestern Plumbing Services.

Ohio officials determined that no laws had been broken there and handed the case over to Kentucky State Police.

Calls to Kentucky State Police were referred to Kenton County Attorney Garry L. Edmondson, who issued the statement about the charges.

Wilson submitted his resignation letter on Feb. 2, saying he was resigning immediately "based on my physician's advice."
