COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Lake Erie fishing report provided by the Division of Wildlife of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources:
Western Basin — There were very few walleye fishing reports from the western basin over the past week. The bestreports came from anglers trolling around Kelleys Island and from shore anglers fishing on the Lakeside pier. In November most walleye are caught by trolling or casting minnow-imitating crank baits.
Yellow perch fishing remains good with the size of fish mostly from 7 to 8 inches with a few up to 12 inches. The best areas have been the around Niagara Reef, west of Green Island and Rattlesnake Island, east of Kelleys Island, around the Catawba green can, off of Marblehead, and off of Cedar Point. Perch spreaders or crappie rigs with shiners fished near the bottom produce the most fish.
Central Basin — Walleye fishing was best from Cedar Point to Vermilion in 30 to 45 feet of water. Walleye were caught by trollers using mostly deep diving crank baits. There were no reports targeting walleye again this past week from Cleveland to Conneaut.
Yellow perch fishing has been excellent 8 to 10 miles north-northeast of Vermilion, 25-35 feet off northeast of Rocky River, 34-39 feet northeast of Edgewater Park, 40-50 feet northwest of Fairport, and 40-54 feet north-northwest of Conneaut. Perch spreaders or crappie rigs with shiners fished as far up as 6 feet off the bottom have been producing the most fish.
Steelhead fishing has been spotty this past week due to recent rain events, however conditions have improved the last couple days. Anglers are catching fish at the mouth and downstream locations in the Chagrin River, Grand River, Geneva State Park, Euclid Creek (Wildwood State Park), Conneaut Creek and along the Conneaut west breakwall. Anglers are using small spoons, spawn sacks and jigs and maggots rigged with a split shot under a light bobber. Fly anglers are catching fish on wooly buggers.
Based on the nearshore forecast the water temperature is 49 degrees off of Toledo and 53 degrees off of Cleveland.
