North Dakota beats Ohio St. 4-1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — North Dakota went into Friday night's game with three straight losses, all by one goal with a goal disallowed in each one.

"When we went into the third period ahead by only one, I thought 'oh no, here we go again,'" UND goalie Brad Eidsness said. "But we broke through that mental block. And we had pucks go into the net for us from all kinds of angles."

UND used 22 saves by Eidsness and a three-goal third period to snap its losing streak with a 4-1 college hockey win over Ohio State in the Subway Holiday Classic.

"Things have not come easily these last two weekends, but when they got within one goal again, we went right back to work," UND coach Dave Hakstol said. "We didn't play a complete game, but it was the most complete game of our last few weekends."

Darcy Zajac's wrist shot was the game's only goal through the first two periods. Then Evan Trupp set up Brad Malone at the doorstep for an easy tap-in for a 2-0 advantage.

Zac Dalpe pulled the Buckeyes within 2-1 with his team-high ninth goal of the season. But Danny Kristo and Brett Hextall answered for the Sioux within a three-minute span.

"Right now we have one line scoring and nobody else," Ohio State coach John Markell said. "We had some opportunities, but we're not putting the puck into the net. We simply need to score more."

Trupp added two assists for UND (8-4-1). Dustin Carlson made 29 saves for OSU (5-9-1).

UND, rated fourth nationally, plays No. 1-ranked Miami (Ohio) on Saturday while the Buckeyes play sixth-ranked Bemidji State.
