DELAWARE, Ohio — A 13-year-old Ohio boy who told a 911 dispatcher he shot and killed his mother's boyfriend has been committed to a juvenile detention center for four years.
Nicholas Boleware admitted to a delinquency count of involuntary manslaughter for fatally shooting 38-year-old Jeffrey Reece in April at the home the boy and his mother shared with Reece near Sunbury. Prosecutors say Reece was unarmed when he was shot twice after turning away from Boleware.
A Delaware County judge on Wednesday sentenced Boleware to two years for involuntary manslaughter and two years for using a gun. The judge says the teen could be in custody until he is 21, depending on his behavior.
Boleware's attorneys say he was abused by his mother's boyfriends. A psychiatrist says that led to post-traumatic stress disorder.
