COLUMBUS, Ohio — The central committee of the Ohio Republican Party has narrowly voted for a policy change that could help the chairman keep his position in the party that leads the state government.

Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) has made it clear he wants GOP Chairman Kevin DeWine replaced. DeWine has said people close to Kasich are working to replace members of the central committee and take it over.

The policy change made Friday is expected to block about a dozen committee candidates supported by Kasich. It says Republicans can be eligible for the committee only if they voted in the three most recent primaries.

Some party members say they're concerned about the rift within the party in a presidential election year.
