COLUMBUS — The Ohio National Guard is protecting 430,000 courses of Tamiflu provided to the state by the federal government in the wake of the swine flu outbreak, officials said on Friday, May 1.
The drug is at an undisclosed, secure facility from where it can be transported to regional sites throughout the state. A course is enough to provide one round of treatment.
The shipment arrived earlier this week, said James Sims, spokesman for the Ohio National Guard.
The shipment is in addition to 1.25 million adult courses of Tamiflu and 95,413 pediatric courses of the drug already stockpiled by the state, said Bret Atkins, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Health.
If needed for treatment, the drug will be provided free of charge to the public, said Atkins.
