SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The opponent of a congressional candidate in western Ohio has accused him of plagiarizing in a newspaper column.
The campaign of Democrat Sharen Neuhardt says online plagiarism tools show more than 20 percent of state Sen. Steve Austria's piece was copied from a Web page of the U.S. Labor Department. The campaign cites a blog that pointed out the similarities.
Austria's campaign manager Brad Mascho says a citation was inadvertently dropped when a member of Austria's legislative staff created a first draft. He says there was no intent to deceive and that the accusation is a cheap political shot in the 7th Congressional District race.
The column was submitted for a Labor Day column in the Xenia Gazette.
