Police officer charged with OVI after multi-vehicle crash

A part-time Monroe police officer is charged with OVI and other traffic violations after a multi-vehicle crash in Lemon Twp., according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 9 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to an accident on Hamilton-Lebanon Road near Yankee Road.

Bobby Sparks, 59, of the 300 block of Yankee Road, was cited as the at-fault driver in the accident and charged with OVI, failure to control and driving left of center, according to the sheriff’s office and Middletown Municipal Court records.

None of the people involved in the crash claimed injury and no one was transported to the hospital.

Sparks, who joined the Monroe Police Department in 1978, was most recently employed in a part-time capacity at that department.

Sparks has been working in an administrative capacity, according to Joshua King, Monroe Police public information officer.

Sparks has not been on the schedule to work for the past few weeks or in upcoming weeks, according to King.

Sparks is scheduled to have a pre-trial hearing Wednesday in Middletown Municipal Court, according to court records.
