Starting today, the Dayton Daily News is answering your questions about Senate Bill 5, Ohio’s collective-bargaining law which is up for a voter referendum on Nov. 8.

Between now and Election Day, our reporters will answer as many of your questions as we can to help you make an informed decision.

Q: Do you know what number the Senate Bill 5 issue will be on the ballot? Also, how will the issue be worded on the ballot? Brian Urquhart, Centerville

A: The referendum of Senate Bill 5 will be on the Nov. 8 ballot as Issue 2. There are two other state issues that will be on the ballot that day.

Issue 1

A proposed constitutional amendment to change the retirement age for judges. Currently, judges cannot be elected or appointed if they are 70 or older when their term starts. The amendment would change that to 76 and make the cutoff date the date of election, not the start of the term.

Issue 3

A proposed constitutional amendment that would exempt Ohio from the individual mandate in the federal health care law and from any similar state mandate.

The ballot language for the Senate Bill 5 referendum has not yet been decided. The Ballot Board is to meet next Wednesday at 10 a.m. to approve the wording for all three state issues.

The Dayton Daily News will have a reporter at the meeting and will explain the ballot language of the issues in the Thursday, Aug. 4, edition.
