Respiratory virus on rise at Children’s; first flu case admitted

Dayton Children’s Hospital admitted its first child with the flu this season.

Flu season changes each year in the Miami Valley, though in recent years cases started to rise in December and peaked around February.

The pediatric hospital stated that along with the flu, positive tests for respiratory syncytial virus are on the rise.

Young children are a population at higher risk for flu hospitalization and everyone older than six months is encouraged to get a flu shot.

This season, there have been 165 flu-related hospitalizations in Ohio as of Nov. 25. Last year there were 8,661 hospitalizations.
