Even high-profile retail destinations such as The Greene are not immune to the high-churn turnover that shadows the restaurant industry in the Miami Valley and across the country.
And on Sunday, The Greene lost one of its flagship restaurants, McCormick & Schmick’s, the full-service seafood eatery that has operated for more than a decade in a prime spot overlooking The Greene’s Town Square. McCormick & Schmick’s wasn’t one of The Greene’s original restaurants, but opened just a few months after the multi-use center did in 2006.
“Our lease term came to an end, and due to rising real estate costs, we elected not to renew our lease,” Howard Cole, chief operating officer of Landry’s, Inc., the parent company of McCormick & Schmick’s, told this news outlet via email on Sunday.
Of course, the loss of the seafood restaurant does not mean visitors to The Greene will go hungry. They’ll have almost 20 other dining options, including The Cheesecake Factory, Brio Tuscan Grille, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and bd’s Mongolian Grill, among others. And it will soon be adding the first Dayton-area location of Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, which is building out space in The Greene’s newest retail building near the center’s front entrance.
But McCormick & Schmick’s also is not the first restaurant to depart the Beavercreek multi-use development, which includes retail, residential and office components. But it is one of the most surprising departures, considering its longevity and prime location.
• In July 2015, Crazy Mango Bar & Bistro on the east side of the shopping complex shut down. It was an independent restaurant owned and operated Judy Silva and Bob Silva, former co-owners of Bahn Mai Thai Cafe in Washington Twp. They had opened Crazy Mango in 2013, after operating Bahn Mai Thai for eight years.

“We served some of the kindest, most appreciative guests who became like family, we will miss you. We employed some of the best people, ever, who became my friends and I will always cherish,” Judy Silva wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
• In January 2015, Adobe Gila’s, a Mexican-themed bar and restaurant at The Greene, shut down. At the time, the pub’s location at The Greene was one of four Adobe Gila’s in the country. It still operates a location at the Easton Town Center in Columbus.

• In December 2015, Cork Wine & Dine restaurant and wine bar in The Greene closed its doors after 14 months. Cork Wine & Dine opened in August 2014, and was the successor to the Wine Loft wine bar.
• In December 2014, That Crepe Place — a small, independently owned restaurant at The Greene — shut its doors for good because its owner was moving to Japan for a job assignment. The restaurant had been open for more than three years.
