Second of three Middletown students appears in court for school fight

The second of three Middletown High School students who were charged with assault following a cafeteria fight last month appeared in Butler County Juvenile Court on Friday morning.

The 17-year-old boy, who was charged with delinquency by way of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault, appeared in court to answer the charges against him, said Court Administrator Rob Clevenger.

The boy had failed to appear in court when he was originally scheduled to on Wednesday, but there was a problem with the service of the summons, Clevenger said. The pre-trial hearing was rescheduled to Friday, he said.

Clevenger said that counsel for the boy had been appointed by the court and a no contact with the other students was ordered. He said court monitoring by the probation department was ordered to ensure compliance with the no contact order.

His next pre-trial hearing will be at 2 p.m. March 21 before Magistrate Liza Kotlarzic.

Clevenger said the third student, a 15-year-old girl who was charged with assault, has not yet appeared in court. An arrest warrant has been issued and police are actively searching for her, Clevenger said. She will be arraigned on the charge against her when she is apprehended.

The other 15-year-old girl facing an assault charge in the same incident appeared in court Wednesday and has a pre-trial hearing set for March 16.
