Man from I-70 crash near Indiana border in critical condition

UPDATE @ 1:55 p.m. (Nov. 25):

The male at-fault driver that crashed into a vehicle before crossing the median and striking another vehicle head-on on I-70 Wednesday night remains in critical condition.

Archie Neal Jr., 52, of Norwalk, Ohio, remained at Miami Valley Hospital Friday afternoon, according to hospital officials.

Two females in the vehicle Neal struck head-on were also transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

The females were identified as Hollie Putzbach, 38, of Fishers, Indiana, and her 13-year-old daughter, state troopers said.

No one inside the initial vehicle Neal struck before losing control was injured.

State troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.

UPDATE @ 9:31 p.m. (Nov. 23): The multiple-car crash on I-70 that sent three people to Miami Valley Hospital has been cleared and the interstate is open now in both directions.

According to the Ohio Highway Patrol, a car driven by a male skidded or went out of control, crossed the median from I-70 West to I-70 East and slammed head-on into a car carrying two females. A third car involved received minor damage and did not stop.

The injuries to the females are believed to be serious. The male is said to be in critical condition.

Speed and weather (possible hydroplaning) are being blamed, according to the state patrol.

UPDATE @ 8:44 p.m.: Three people injured in the multiple-vehicle accident on I-70 East in Preble County have been taken to hospitals by CareFlight.

There is no word on the extent of their injuries.

The second CareFlight helicopter dispatched to the scene is still on scene.

The interstate continues to be shut down in both directions.

UPDATE @ 8 p.m.: I-70 is shut down in both directions for a serious crash tonight, the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.

FIRST REPORT

Crews were called tonight to a serious crash on eastbound Interstate 70 just inside the state limits.

Two CareFlight medical helicopters were requested for victims in the crash reported around 7:20 p.m. near the rest area at mile post 3 near New Paris in Preble County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. According to initial reports, there were two vehicles, possibly three involved and one person may have been trapped.
