Shutterfly purchases Teradata data warehouse

Digital photo giant Shutterfly Inc. has selected Miami Twp.-based Teradata Corp. to provide and support deployment of a data warehouse to help the company realize its vision as a data-driven business, according to a media release.

Officials said the deployment has been launched and is now in full production using Teradata in-database “R” Analytics. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With seven brands and six acquisitions in the last four years, Shutterfly is adjusting to rapid business growth and merchandise extensions, leading to increasing data volumes, complexity, and changing user behavior across multiple devices. In addition, capacity and analytical capabilities in its existing data environment have not kept pace with the explosion of big data and its emerging data sources and types, officials said.

Teradata is providing “the best integration and analytics tools with the expertise to help us create a powerhouse analytic environment — and discover the actionable insights we need to fully realize our vision as a data-driven business,” said Sarang Kirpekar, Shutterfly vice president of data products and science, in a statement.

Teradata is an analytics, data warehousing and marketing applications and services company. The company has about 10,000 workers worldwide, including more than 400 in the Dayton region.
