Sneak peek: New Kettering restaurant opens next week

Kettering’s newest Asian restaurant will open next week after extensive renovations to the space on Wilmington Pike across from Meijer.

Sky Asian Cuisine will host a grand opening Thursday, June 30 at 4090 Wilmington Pike, just south of Stroop Road. It will likely have a "soft opening" in the days leading up to the grand opening, according to co-founder Raymond Chow.

The restaurant’s menu includes dishes from Japan, Thailand and China, including a variety of sushi options. Signature sushi rolls include the Kettering Roll, which contains shrimp tempura, filet mignon, tuna, and avocado, and Sky King Roll, which includes king crab, shrimp and avocado, deep-fried and topped with spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail.

Seafood will be featured in several dishes, according to co-founder Tim He, who also operates He5 Asian Bistro in Troy.

The restaurant seats about 120 and will open with about 15 employees. A patio has been added, and a private room for meetings and parties seats about 16. Sky Asian Cuisine has a full liquor license, and will offer an extensive sake list as well as specialty cocktails with Asian flavors, its founders said.

The building previously housed Sidelines Sports Bar & Grill and, before that, Starlite Diner. It was originally a Perkins restaurant. Sidelines shut down in August 2014, so the space had been vacant for a year-and-a-half before renovations began in March.

Sky Asian Cuisine’s hours after its grand opening will be: weekdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner (11 p.m. on Fridays); Saturday noon to 11 p.m.; and Sunday noon to 10 p.m.
