In his last visit to Kil-Kare Speedway in July, Levi Mansfield set one record. Tonight he goes for another when the ARCA Truck Series returns for the JEGS.com 100.

Mansfield, who set the track record and picked up his first career ARCA win last month, can tie Paul Hahn’s record for most consecutive victories with his fourth straight checkered flag tonight. Mansfield, who lives about an hour north of Lima in Oakwood, became the fourth ARCA driver to win three straight races with his victory at Lorain County Speedway on Aug. 25.

On July 6, Mansfield set the Kil-Kare ARCA track record with a one-lap qualifying time of 13.784 seconds around the 3/8th-mile modified-D.

“Having a blast,” Mansfield told ARCA.com after his victory at Lorain. “We knew we were going to be good when we got here and the truck was good for us.”

He’s hoping for similar results in the No. 54 Kirsch’s Automotive Chevy, owned by Fairfield’s Kenny Kirsch Sr. Mansfield led 93 of the 100 laps at Kil-Kare. He enters tonight with six top-5 and seven top-10 finishes and a series-high 259 laps led out of 600. He’s also locked in a tight points battle with Batavia’s Danny Jackson, who leads by 30 points with five races left.

“I enjoy racing with Danny,” Mansfield said on ARCA.com. “He’s a great driver and known him a long time and it’s going to be a battle coming down to this championship. I wouldn’t want it to be anybody else I’m racing for it.”

Among area drivers, Beavercreek’s Brandon Oakley is expected to drive the No. 6 Oakley Blacktop Chevrolet owned by Ron Wells and crew chiefed by Bobby Wells. Oakley did not race in July.

Oakley, who also races late models, also announced former NASCAR driver Gary St. Amant will crew chief for him on the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. The Columbus resident has four starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, a pair of ASA championships and numerous short-track victories.

“I think Gary is an awesome choice for us. His knowledge about racing is very deep and he can serve as a mentor and coach to me,” Oakley said.

Full slate this weekend

Racing fans won’t have to work hard to find a race this Labor Day weekend. In addition to the normal shows, Winchester Speedway and Tri-State Dragway host special three-day shows Saturday through Monday. Winchester hosts its World Stock Car Festival, while Tri-State honors owner Bob Louden with a memorial race. Louden died in April at the age of 76. His wife, Pat, continues to run the track.

Eldora Speedway shifts gears from its normal Saturday slot to Sunday for the Earl Baltes Classic, which serves as a tune-up for the prestigious World 100 late model race.
