Reds sign free agent infielder

CINCINNATI —The Cincinnati Reds announced this morning the signing of free agent infielder Jack Hannahan to a 2-year contract.

Hannahan, 32, hit .244 with four home runs and 29 RBIs last season for the Cleveland Indians. He will be introduced today at Great American Ball Park.

“Jack is known for being a great teammate and a clubhouse leader everywhere he’s been,” Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty said. “He’s very good defensively and is capable of playing any infield position. We think he was the best utility player out there.”

Hannahan has played third base for most of his career, but also has played first, shortstop and second base. Besides Cleveland, he also has played for the Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.
