Guard Reggie Arceneaux had the gym almost to himself around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. It wasn’t time for practice, but Arceneaux was getting in some extra work.

That’s required, Arceneaux said. Even during exam week, the players find time to get on the court.

“Certainly, exams are important,” WSU coach Billy Donlon said. “It’s why they’re here: to get their education. Our guys are working hard. You’re studying a little harder than you have all semester because you’ve got exams, papers, things to do. I would think coming to the basketball court is kind of your way to get away, to get some of that stress off your shoulders by competing. Hopefully, our guys feel the same way.”

Arceneaux had an exam later in the day, but overall it wasn’t a bad week.

“I can’t really speak for everyone else, but for me, it’s been pretty easy,” he said.

Starting this weekend, with a 2 p.m. game Saturday at Hofstra (3-7) in Hempstead, N.Y., the Raiders (6-3) can just focus on basketball until classes resume in January.

“That’s the good part,” Arceneaux said. “It’s just one thing to focus on, not just for me, but my teammates and coaches as well.”
