I know you’re preoccupied with the latest “Twilight” movie, but we have a problem. How does this sound: No more Twinkies. Ever. Hostess, the company that makes Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs, shut down last week. Some calorie-loving company could buy the recipe, but you never know. As a safeguard, I’m proposing a government bailout of Twinkies. After all, they are an iconic American brand, just like Chevrolet.

Was Wisconsin’s Montee Ball trying to set a touchdown record Saturday? I couldn’t really tell because the ABC announcers barely mentioned it. Anyway, Ohio State stuffed the Badgers when it counted in a satisfying 21-14 overtime road victory.

Now it’s Michigan Week. This year it’s also Bowl Week, thanks to those tattoo shenanigans. That kind of motivation, coupled with Denard Robinson’s throwing issues, will lead to a Buckeyes victory at Ohio Stadium. I’m predicting a blowout, 34-17, which will cap an undefeated season and unofficial Big Ten title.

And hopefully the TV guys won’t spoil the day by babbling on about Braxton Miller and the Heisman Trophy. That’ll have to wait till next year.

Notre Dame was counting on a win at USC this week to raise its profile in the eyes of the college football poll voters and the public at large because, really, the Fighting Irish don’t pass the eye test when it comes to sizing up BCS championship game combatants.

The Trojans keep losing, but a win in the L.A. Coliseum still would give the Irish a good argument. Then again, we could end up with no undefeated teams and Alabama could sneak into the championship game. That’s why I’ll be cheering for Notre Dame.

I’m assuming UD fans dominated the bar scene Friday night in Charleston, S.C. (Great city with a New Orleans vibe, but on a smaller scale.) Friday’s 87-71 win over Boston College offered a tasty glimpse of the future. Five Flyers who didn’t play last season combined for 119 valuable minutes and some Canadian kid named Dyshawn Pierre scored 23 points.

UD wraps up its visit to the Palmetto State today with a game against Auburn. The Flyers and Tigers met four years ago in the Chicago Invitational and UD was 0-for-24 from 3-point range … and won.

Sorry to hear Rick Majerus has stepped down due to health concerns. Majerus was quirky, but the Saint Louis basketball coach stressed fundamentals and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, a refreshing trait in a day and age where image and endorsement deals come first.

Majerus’ 25-year career record was an incredible 517-216. In 1998, his Utah team had a lead on Tubby Smith’s more talented Kentucky machine in the NCAA championship game, but ran out of steam.

I usually don’t get pumped about movie remakes, but I’m intrigued about “Red Dawn,” which hits theaters Wednesday. We’ll cheer for these Wolverines.
