Small college football previews

Who: Wittenberg University (3-0) at Case Western Reserve University (2-2)

When: 1 p.m. today.

Where: Case Field, Cleveland.

Wittenberg notes: The Tigers have given up fewer points in three straight games (17, 14 and 7). … Will Stocker had 31 carries in last week’s 17-7 victory at Wooster, the most by a Wittenberg running back in a game since Corey Weber in 2009. He had 119 of the team’s 251 rushing yards.

Case Western notes: This is the first meeting between the schools since 1999. Case was 1-8 against Wittenberg between 1989 and 1999. Case had three straight undefeated seasons between 2007-09 and has lost six games in the last five seasons. It lost 17-14 at Ohio Wesleyan last week on a late field goal.

Who: Central State (1-3, 1-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) at William Jewell College (2-2, 1-0 GLVC)

When: 1 p.m. today.

Where: Liberty, Mo.

Central State notes: The Marauders made it respectable last week after falling behind 29-6 at halftime to St. Joseph’s. They outscored St. Joseph’s 30-13 in the second half and scored a touchdown as time expired in the fourth quarter, losing 42-36. Michael Wilson threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns.

William Jewell notes: Quarterback Sean Shelton has thrown 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions and totaled 882 yards in four games.

Who: Urbana University (3-1) at West Virginia Wesleyan University (1-3)

When: Noon today.

Where: Buckhannon, W.V.

Urbana notes: Junior linebacker Roy Harvison was named Great Lakes Valley Defensive Player of the Week. He had 13 tackles, including four for a loss, in a 14-10 win over Quincy.

West Virginia Weslyan notes: The Bobcats’ quarterback is Nate Montana, son of NFL legend Joe Montana. The 6-4 senior from Concord, Calif., transferred to Wesleyan this year from Montana. He threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns last week in a win over Seton Hill and was named West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Who: Wilmington College (0-3, 0-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) at Muskingum University (0-3, 0-2 OAC)

When: 7 p.m. today.

Where: New Concord, Ohio.

Wilmington notes: This is Wilmington’s first game since the resignation of head coach Ken Minor on Tuesday. Minor was 0-23 in two-plus seasons. Former Valley View High School coach Jay Niswonger, Wilmington’s offensive coordinator, was named interim coach.

Muskingum: The Muskies lost 13-6 in overtime to Baldwin-Wallace last week. They were outgained 317-186, but held BW to two field goals until overtime. Muskingum beat Wilminton 14-3 last season and 3-0 two years ago.
