DAYTON — Thurgood Marshall basketball standout Joe Thomasson, who signed a letter of intent in November with Wright State, is now looking at junior colleges after being informed by Wright State a week ago that he had not been accepted because he failed to meet NCAA academic requirements.

The original plan was for Thomasson not to take a scholarship this season, focus on academics and play in the 2013-14 season. He was disappointed to find out he didn’t have the grades to get into school.

“I found out at the last minute,” Thomasson said.

The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 16.6 points last season for Marshall and was named to the Dayton Daily News second team in Division II. Thomasson helped lead Marshall to a runner-up finish in the state tournament as a junior in 2011.

“I’m getting a lot of offers from big jucos,” Thomasson said. “I’ve just been looking around and waiting to see what will be the best. I’ve got like three trips lined up out of state. I’ve got a couple in Kansas, one in Missouri, one in Colorado.”

Wright State coach Billy Donlon sees a possible future for Thomasson at Wright State after two years at a junior college.

“We will certainly continue to recruit him,” Donlon said. “Absolutely.”
