Wire Reports
Former Ohio State running back Daniel “Boom” Herron might get a chance to play for the Cincinnati Bengals after all.
Herron was one of seven players the Bengals put on their practice squad Saturday after being released on Friday.
The others are:
u25CF Fullback Jourdan Brooks, a rookie from Morgan State.
u25CF Long snapper Bryce Davis, a rookie from Central Oklahoma.
u25CF Guard Otis Hudson, a second-year player from Eastern Illinois.
u25CF Linebacker Emmanuel Lamur, a rookie from Kansas State.
u25CF Cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris, a rookie from Tennessee-Chattanooga.
u25CF Quarterback Zac Robinson, a second-year player from Oklahoma State.
In four seasons at Ohio State, Herron rushed for 2,946 yards on 593 carries for a 4.8-yard average. The Bengals selected him in the sixth round (No. 191 overall) of April’s draft.
The team has one spot to fill, which could happen today or Monday. Someone also could be sifted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday if center Kyle Cook is placed on injured reserve with the “designated to return” status at midseason.
As for players released by the Bengals and claimed by another team, the only one as of midday Saturday was tight end Colin Cochard, who was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys.
Friday’s final cuts left the Bengals with 17 players with two years of experience or less. Browns: Rookie running back Trent Richardson was outside riding an exercise bike Saturday for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Aug. 9. It means he’s one step closer to returning to the practice field.
Coach Pat Shurmur said he remains “very optimistic” Richardson will play next Sunday against Philadelphia.
