JAMESTOWN — Evan Bradds’ Facebook page said it all on Sunday evening.
The Greeneview High School junior basketball star verbally committed to Ohio University earlier in the afternoon — and made the school’s Bobcat logo his profile picture about 15 minutes later.
Bradds, a 6-foot-6 post player, averaged 17.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and shot 52 percent from the field as a sophomore last winter.
He helped guide the Rams to their second straight appearance in the Division III district championship game, and was named D-III District 9 Player of the Year.
“I just thought (Ohio University) was a great fit for me,” Bradds said. “I wanted to end the recruiting process early so I could focus on the high school season.”
Bradds also received offers from Miami (Ohio), Akron, Toledo, Wright State, James Madison and Albany, but in the end picked the Bobcats.
“They’ve really been there since Day 1 with the whole recruiting process,” Bradds said. “They showed me a lot of what they could to do incorporate me into their offense and defense and I like that fit.”
Bradds follows in the footsteps of both his father, David, who played at the University of Dayton, and grandfather, Gary, the former Ohio State legend and NBA first-round draft pick.
“(The coaching staff) made me feel comfortable and I thought that was the right choice,” Bradds said. “I could’ve waited longer, but I think this is the right fit for me.”
