COLUMBUS —

Beavercreek wrestling coach Gary Wise has some redecorating to do.

Since Jeff Lawless claimed a state title in 1992, there has been one bracket hanging on the wall in the Beavers wrestling room.

Wise will have to make room for a second one.

Beavercreek senior Nick Corba recorded a takedown with 11 seconds left in overtime to claim the Division I state title at 170, 3-1 over Brunswick’s Tyler Hughes Saturday night at the Schottenstein Center.

“It will fit right next to it,” Wise said with a smile when reminded of the new wall-hanging. “If we have to move something, it is not a problem.”

Corba and Hughes traded escapes in regulation, with Corba fighting off a deep single late in regulation to force overtime. In overtime, Corba got in deep on a shot and finished it off to claim the title.

“I’m a state champ,” Corba said as his smile broadened. “I really didn’t get too nervous until I got to the mat. I had to tell myself that it was too late for that, it was go time.”

Dayton Christian junior Jacob Danishek capped off a dominating state tournament, recording two falls and two technical falls, including a 17-2 decision over Dixie’s Matt Buxton in the finals to claim his third state title.

“You can’t make more of a statement than that,” Danishek said. “It feels a little better knowing my picture is going to be on the wall (with other three- and four-time champs in the tunnel leading to the mats). That is cool when you look at the other people on the wall.”

Behind Danishek’s title, a runner-up finish by Christian Clary (113) , Hunter Bray’s third at 106 and a sixth-place finish by Alex Becker (132), the Dayton Christian finished third in the team race with 77 points.

However, it wasn’t enough to catch Troy Christian. The Eagles got titles from Jarred Ganger (113), Garrett Hancock (120) and B.J. Toal (182) to claim the team title with 95.5 points.

ancock clinched the title with a 1-0 win over Greeneview freshman Logan LaCure.

Cameron Kelly of Bellbrook fell just short of defending his state title, dropping a 3-2 decision to Graham’s Eli Seipel in the 113 finals, capping an up-and-down week after tearing his MCL on Sunday.

“I always dreamed about being a four-time champion, and now I’m not able to do that,” said a distraught Kelly. “I didn’t even really expect to wrestle this week. I had so much on my mind. I’m extremely blessed just being in the state finals again, but I really thought I could do it this time. I just fell a little bit short. It’s heartbreaking.”

Other area placers included third-place finishes by Bellbrook’s Benjamin Schram (152), a fourth-place finish by Covington’s A.J. Ouellette (182), a fifth place by Allen Seagraves of Miami East at (120) and eighth-place finishes by Butler’s Kendal Newell (138) and Trotwood’s Anthony Grayson (182)
