Kennard, Hymer lead Franklin to win

By Eric Hickey

MADISON TWP. —

The Franklin Wildcats entered Friday night’s game against the host Madison Mohawks determined to make a statement.

It was a statement Madison received loud and clear.

Franklin’s Luke Kennard threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns and Chris Hymer added 85 yards rushing and three TDs as the Wildcats rolled 34-6 before a packed house at Brandenburg Field.

After a scoreless opening stanza, Franklin dominated the second quarter, outgaining the Mohawks 210-35 while building a 27-0 halftime bulge.

“I am so proud of these kids,” Franklin coach Rodney Roberts said. “We came in here focused in on what we needed to do. Madison has a nice team but we came to play, especially defensively. “

Kennard threw for 142 first-half yards and scores to Conner Stickelman (5 yards) and Jake Riddell (8 yards). Riddell’s score came with under a minute to go in the half.

For Madison, the first-half onslaught proved to much to overcome. The Mohawks (3-3) were unable to move the ball and turned the ball over twice on special teams errors.

Madison took more than nine minutes off the clock in the third quarter but turned it over on downs at the Franklin 14-yard line.

Madison avoided the shutout with 8 seconds left when Randy Davis hit Dakota Powell on a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Riddell finished with 139 yards receiving and a touchdown while Stickelman added 59 receiving yards and a score for Franklin, which improved to 5-1.

The Wildcats host Valley View next Friday night. Madison entertains Carlisle.
