BELLBROOK — Gabrielle Etter scored 15 points and Erin Dorn added 12, including 11 in the first quarter, as the Bellbrook High School girls basketball team topped Miamisburg 58-42 on Friday on the first night of high school girls basketball.
The Golden Eagles also got three 3-pointers from Leisha Crawford, who finished with 15 points, in beginning in what they hope is another championship season. Bellbrook has won nine of the last 10 Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division titles, and the Golden Eagles are coming off a 21-2 season.
With four starters returning and the No. 4 spot in the Dayton Daily News Division II ratings, Bellbrook took a 19-10 lead after the first quarter held a 35-20 lead at halftime.
Ellie Collins led Miamisburg, which went 6-15 last season, with 13 points.
Vandalia Butler 50, Tippecanoe 48: Ellise Sharpe, the Red Devils senior headed to Brown, scored a game-high 19 points to aid a fourth-quarter comeback that fell short. Butler led 33-20 after three quarters before a wild final period during which Tipp outscored the Aviators 28-17 with the help of four 3-pointers and three front-end free throw misses by Butler. Emily Mowbray and Gina Warmouth each scored 14 points for Butler.
Wayne 56, Versailles 35: Junior Faith Miller, who averaged 7.9 points per game last season, opened with 24 to help the Warriors, No. 5 in the DDN D-I ratings. Danie Shafer, who led Wayne in scoring last season, added 15 points. Wayne moved on to face host Celina in the OVISCO Tournament.
Oakwood 47, Milton-Union 38: The Jills led 24-23 at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 11-6 in the fourth quarter to earn their first victory in this SWBL crossover game.
Kenton Ridge 80, Southeastern 36: Mariah Harris, a Michigan State signee, scored 20 points while Paige McCrary added 21 for the Cougars, No. 5 in the DDN D-II ratings. Jenna Erin scored 25 points for Southeastern.
Anna 56, New Knoxville 37: The Rockets, the defending Division III state champions, got 18 points from Ashley Frohne and 16 from Morgan Huelskamp in outscoring New Knoxville 36-17 in the second half at the New Bremen Tip-Off Tournament. Frohne connected on three 3-pointers.
Tri-Village 79, Arcanum 19: The Patriots, No. 1 in the DDN D-IV ratings, got 24 points from returning all-state first teamer Kayla Linkous and 14 each from Shaye Thomas and Krystal Falknor.
Little Miami 52, Waynesville 43: Lindsey Davis led three double-digit scorers with 18 points for the Panthers, who also got 14 points from Amy Bullimore and 10 from Chelsea Bires. Sophomore Ali Caplinger had a game-high 20 points for Waynesville.
Mid. Madison 56, Stebbins 28: Meghan Miller led all scorers with 15 points for the Mohawks, and Ashtin Brandon and Amber McFadden each had six for Stebbins.
