Mangen’s tip-in helps Northmont survive rally

Northmont High School’s Troy Mangen had the magic fingertips.

Mangen’s tip-in at the buzzer led the Thunderbolts to a 56-54 win over Miamisburg in boys basketball Friday.

The last-minute score saved Northmont after a rough fourth quarter. Miamisburg trailed by 12 points with three minutes left in the third quarter, but the Vikings rallied. Miamisburg tied the game with a free throw with 14 seconds left in the game.

Dominique Stollings led Northmont with 16 points. Cameron Taylor scored 11 while Mangen finished with 10. Stollings made two 3-pointers.

Adam Giles led Miamisburg with 20 points. Conner Brown scored 12. Giles made two 3-pointers.

Greeneview 41, Southeastern 40: Evan Bradds made the game-winning free throw with .1 seconds left.

Bradds was fouled after he drove the length of the court. He scored 19 while Duncan Mercer of Southeastern scored 16.

Springfield 76, Fairborn 59: Springfield led early after a 12-4 run in the first quarter.

Henry Jackson, off the bench, led Springfield with 19. Ryan Minney scored 17 and Dae’Shawn Jackson scored 11.

Jordan Michael led Fairborn with 27. Malik Jacobs scored 15.

Centerville 70, Piqua 58: Jake Replogle led the Elks with 20. Joey Weingartner scored 18 and made two 3-pointers.

Centerville did its damage from the foul line, making 27 free throws.

Fairmont 47, Greenville 41 OT: Fairmont’s defense kept Greenville from scoring in overtime.

Kei’Vante Tanner scored 16 to lead the Firebirds. Aaron Abbott added 12.

Eaton 48, Oakwood 44: Todd Titus led Eaton with 20.

Carlisle 94, Northridge 85 2OT: Andrew Goodpaster scored 33 points for Carlisle, and Braden Lieungh scored 28. Nate Jackson led Northridge with 22.


Prakel wins High School Heisman

Sam Prakel, a cross country runner from Versailles High School, was one of two winners of the Wendy’s High School Heisman on Friday.

Prakel won the award with Zoe Alaniz of Corpus Christi, Texas. They were among 12 national semifinalists.

A senior, Prakel won the Division III boys cross country meet in November with a time of 15:16.62. He beat the second-place finisher by over four seconds.
