Ohio counties in the process of auditing November election results

Ohio’s county boards of elections are completing audits of the Nov. 8 results this week. Here’s 5 things to know about the required audit:

1. The audits are not a recount.

2. Boards of election review results from 5 percent of votes cast.

3. Audits resulted from a settlement of a lawsuit against then-Secretary of State Ken Blackwell filed by the League of Women Voters of Ohio in the wake of the state’s problem-plagued 2004 election.

4. Paper ballots are counted by hand.

5. Voter verified paper records on electronic machines are counted to see if they match the computer memory card count.

We will ahve more on the audits later today on our website.
