Ohio AG DeWine going after drug makers: ‘This is just the beginning’

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is stepping up the pressure on drug manufacturers, calling on them to pay for drug recovery efforts in the state.

DeWine’s Monday morning announcement of a new plan to deal with the crisis included a direct message to the drug manufacturers.

“I’m mad. I will do everything in my power to make you pay. This is just the beginning. There will be more unless you come to the table to pay, “DeWine said.

Included in DeWine’s 12 point plan responding to the drug crisis is the creation of a cabinet level agency dedicated to lead the anti-drug effort. “I don’t like the term Drug Czar,” DeWine said, but the focus of that person’s effort would be the same.

DeWine had sued the drug companies earlier and now wants them to settle in order to provide the finances needed for recovery efforts.

So far the state has not filed lawsuits against drug distributors but DeWine today urged them to step forward.
