Tweeted Portman: "@JimRenacci has a track record of success as a job creator and battle-tested conservative leader, and I am proud to endorse him in the race for U.S. Senate."

Renacci, who has changed his Twitter profile photo to one of him and Trump, quickly responded: "I am honored to have the endorsement of my friend and fellow Ohioan, @robportman. Together in the U.S. Senate, I will work with Sen. Portman to advance a commonsense conservative agenda for America and Ohio."

Renacci dropped out of the gubernatorial race to run for Senate after Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel departed the Senate campaign for family reasons. Among the other Republicans hoping to challenge Brown are Cleveland businessman Mike Gibbons, Marysville business owner Melissa Ackison and Galloway retiree Don Elijah Eckhart.
