5 things to know for final, first games at Middletown gyms

Here are 5 things to know if you’re attending this weekend’s Middletown High School basketball games that will mark the district’s goodbye to Wade E. Miller Gym and the opening of its new Wade E. Miller Arena.

1. Two days of basketball

On Friday, the district will bid farewell to Wade E. Miller, its home since 1952, except for the 1970s when games were played at the high school on Breiel Boulevard.

The Middies face Butler County rival Hamilton on Friday.

On Saturday, Middletown’s boys and girls basketball teams open the new Wade E. Miller Arena on Breiel Boulevard.

Friday schedule

  • Boys basketball vs. Hamilton: 4:30 p.m. freshman; 6 p.m. junior varsity; 7:30 p.m. varsity.
  • Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
  • All games at Wade E. Miller Gym, Middletown Middle School, 1415 Girard Ave.

Saturday schedule

  • Girls basketball vs. Colerain: 12:30 p.m. junior varsity; 2 p.m. varsity.
  • Boys basketball vs. Lima Senior: 4:30 p.m. freshman; 6 p.m. junior varsity; 7:30 p.m. varsity.
  • All games at Wade E. Miller Arena, Middletown High School, 601 N. Breiel Blvd.

2. How to buy tickets

  • Pricing: $6 adults; $4 students
  • How to purchase: Click here to buy online or purchase at the Athletic Office at the Manchester Building, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.
  • Both games are subject to sell out.
  • Only Greater Miami Conference, Purple Pit Student Passes, and other approved passes will be accepted.

3. Where to park

  • Friday overflow parking available at the downtown Middletown transit lot. Shuttle buses will be provided by the Butler County Regional Transit Authority from 6 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Saturday overflow parking available at Miami Middletown University. Shuttle buses will be provided by the Butler County Regional Transit Authority from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

4. The uniforms

The Middletown Middies and Hamilton Big Blue will commemorate the final game in Wade E. Miller Gym on Friday by wearing 1950s throwback uniforms.

5. Can’t be there in person? You can watch online

The final basketball game at historic Wade E. Miller Gym and the first game at Miller Arena this weekend will be broadcast online thanks to a Middletown church.

Stratford Heights Church of God has volunteered its television production equipment to be used for Friday’s last game at Miller Gym and Saturday night’s first game at Miller Arena. The games will be streamed live on the church’s website.
